Fourteen Good Senators

Fourteen Good Senators
http://www.davidhbdrake.com/

This is a song for the 14 Senators who are standing with Wisconsin workers in the effort to block Governor Walker's attempt to destroy union collective bargening rights. The tune is "borrowed" (with his knowledge) from Wisconsin's great union folksinger, Larry Penn. The original song was about another disaster in the Great Lakes area- the Edmund Fitzgerald (the song is also known as "29 Men") which predates Lightfoot's song.

Sing me a song for the State of Wisconsin
For all the workers who stand for their rights
And for the people who lead in the fight
With Fourteen good Senators gone

These Fourteen Senators, all good and true
These Fourteen Senators standing with you
God help us all if this Bill gets pushed through
With Fourteen good Senators gone

Sing me a song of the State union workers
Standing as one with our backs to the wall
Doing the jobs that still serve one and all
With Fourteen good Senators gone

Chorus

Chant me a protest against Scotty Walker
Stealing the right to collectively bargain
Doing the bidding of business for their gain
With Fourteen good Senators gone

Chorus

Sing me a song for the State of Wisconsin
With it’s long history of fair labor laws
Go now to Madison, fight for the cause
With Fourteen good Senators gone
